Eric Satie'nin piyano için yazılmış "Vexations" adlı bestesinden esinli. İş, bestenin notalarıyla simultane gösterilen renkli ışıklı bir pano ile bahsedilen "sıkıntı" durumuna eşlik eden, kişisel hikayelere atıflı, yolculuğu ve parça için Satie nin de önerdigi "sessizlik" durumunu tanımlayan fotoğraflardan oluşuyor.
Satie'nin bestesi şimdiye kadar daha çok performatif yorumları olan, tekrar eden motifler ile temadan oluşan bir eser. İzleyiciyle paylaşılmak istenen müzik gibi duyuma dayalı bir disiplinin görsel dille nasıl ifade bulabileceği sorusu. Duymayan biri için, duyulan her sesle senkronize gösterilen ışık, parçanın algısına nasıl yardımcı olabilir? Müziğin ne hissettirdiği yada neyin ifadesi olduğunu, kişisel dille olan diyaloğunu ve yorumunu önemsiyorum. Zaten Satie'nin önerisi de bu kişisel serüven durumu.
Işıklı panodaki renkler, ışık tayfındaki yedi renk ve piyanodaki yedi temel nota ile bu renklerin varyasyonlarından oluşuyor. Fotoğraflar ise yolculuk süreci ve sonrasındaki mekanı ve kendini konumlamaya dair bir süreci gösteriyor.
İşin ismi Manhattan da yürürken tesadüfen karşılaştığım bir duvar yazısından esinli. Bir kilisenin duvarına yazılmıştı. İzleyiciyi de bir şekilde kendi iç sesinden yada sessizliğinden uzaklaşmadan müzigi dinlemeye ve kendi serüvenini keşfetmeye çağırıyor. Müziğin ve görselliğin evrensel bir ortak dil taşıdığına olan inancim yüzünden bu iki disiplinin biraradalığını kişisel dille tanımlama çalışıyorum.

Don't walk away from silence..
Inspired by "Vexations," composed by Eric Satie for the piano. The piece brings together a panel with multi-color lights that are shown simultaneously with the notes of the composition, and photographs describing the journey that accompanies the state of restlessness as they refer to personal stories and reflect the state of peace and quiet suggested by Satie with the composition.
A piece that was interpreted more performatively so far, Satie's composition is comprised of recurring motives and themes. The question ishow to express visually a discipline like music that is so much reliant on hearing in order to reach the audience. How could lights synchronized with each and every sound help a deaf person to perceive such a piece? I find important what the music makes one feel and what it expresses, its dialogue with the personal language and interpretations. It is exactly this state of personal adventure that Satie is set to explore.
The colors on the light panel bring together the seven colors on the light spectrum, the seven basic notes on the piano, and the variations of these colors. The photographs show the journey, the destination at the end,and the process that is linked to self-identification.
The name of the piece was inspired by a graffitti that I encountered coincidentally as I was walking in Manhattan. It was written on the wall of a church. It invites the viewer to listen to the music without getting distant from his or her own internal voice or quietness and to explore their own journey. A personal journey. Taking ground from my belief that music and visual arts carry a universal common language, I try to describe and share my own state of being here with this piece.
